Dad's cataract surgery cancelled; resheduled for March 21st.

Hi Family & Friends:
Sorry, I haven't gotten the message out about Dad's cataract surgery which ended up
being cancelled by the surgeon's office at the request of the anesthesiologist, who said
it was too soon after the hip surgery. Dad wasn't overly disappointed because he realized
after the fact---he felt no where up to it.
Dad started out like me, right after his hip replacement (perhaps a bit too overly confident)
realizining the original pain was gone--replaced by another. But, still our perspective is (for
me, I'm 7+ weeks post-op and that much closer to full recovery) and Dad's now 1+ week
post-op and that much closer to full recovery.
Rob's the one who said all of our "kids" drew straws about who would let us stay (since we
were homeless and Mariah & Art lost and from my perspective, they've lost a 2nd and soon
3rd time for having to put us up or more probable--to who puts up with us!
We appreciate your loving and caring concerns. Mariah & Art are so gracious and kind to us.
Art's Dad had surgery for stomach cancer, so please pray for his recovery and for Lili to have
the stamina to care for him.
Hope, Art and Jason don't mind; but feel it needs to be said---Jason has apparently had mono
for about a month and is very run down. So it would be appreciated to include all of us sickies.
Sure seems like a lot of health issues! SO hoping the rest of you are purring along and are
healthy. We miss you all and look forward to traveling south, as our heath permits---for me
I can handle about an hour in the car or shorter---Dad's already driving--no suprise there, right?!
Love you all,
Mom/ grandma/ pat mac

FW: Cherokee Legend-----DAD'S HIP SURGERY IS DONE--HE'S NOW ON THE MEND.

Dear beautiful family & friends: We arrived at the hospital shortly before 7:30 AM for
a 9:30 AM surgery. Dad had struggled the night before-fighting off a cold, with a slight
problem of stuffed up nose. When we arrived, his temperature was taken and it was
normal---RELIEF!
Apparently, Dr. McCarty's first surgery took longer than expected; as Dad didn't get
into the operating room until about 10:23, surgery didn't start until 10:47 and was finished by 11:45. Even though we had each had an epidural, the time in recovery is
still relative long. Dr. McCarty called after the surgery was finished and said the surgery
went fine and Dad was doing well. I didn't see Dad until they brought him into his room,
which was right next door to where I'd been, now just 7 weeks to the day ago. We
are both soooo relieved that the surgeries are behind us and the recuperation and
return to better health ahead of us.
We have been asked to speak briefly about our CES missions to Australia as a senior
couple for approximately 20 minutes shared time, the night before our stake conference,
which will be a broadcast conference with many other stakes, just as Kris&Troy, Heather
&Robert & Shauana and Jason have recently had.
Thank you all for your most loving kindnesss, support and prayers. This is when it pays
off having 9 "Kids", lovely mates and 33 grandchildren. WE KNOW your prayers and
thoughts helped so much.
Love you all so much and want you to know you are always in our prayers.
More than half of you called before I could call; you all enrich and give us the most
immense joy as you raise your beautiful families. Thanks for your support.
IF time permits read the Chrokee Legend, I'm forwarding from Helen; it reminds me
of the tender mercies and supports we not only receive from our families, but from
our beloved Heavenly Father and His beloved Son, our Savior.
Love you all,
Mom & Dad, Grandpa & (ma), sis/Pat

> > Cherokee Legend.....? Do you know the legend of the Cherokee Indian youth's?rite of Passage??? His father takes him into the forest, blindfolds him and? leaves him alone.?? He is required to sit on a stump the whole night and not? remove the blindfold until the rays of the morning sun? shine through it.?? He cannot cry out for help to anyone.? Once he survives the night, he is a MAN.? He cannot tell the other boys of this experience, because each lad must come into manhood on his own.? The boy is naturally terrified.? He can hear all kinds of noises.?? Wild beasts must surely be all around him? Maybe even some human might do him harm.? The wind blew the grass and earth, and shook his stump, but?? he sat stoically, never removing the blindfold. It would be? the only way he could become a man!?? Finally, after a horrific night the sun appeared and he?? removed his blindfold.?? It was then that he discovered his father sitting on the? stump next to him.? He had been at watch the entire night, protecting his son? from harm.? We, too, are never alone.?? Even when we don't know it,?God is watching over us,?? Sitting on the stump beside us.? When trouble comes,? All we have to do is reach out to Him.?Moral of the story:?? Just because you can't see God,? Doesn't mean He is not there.? ' For we walk by faith, not by sight.???????

Dad's surgery is now set for this Monday, March 23rd at 9:30AM

Date: Wednesday, March 18, 2009, 5:07 PM

Dad passed his cardiac stress test yesterday and is now scheduled for hip surgery
this Monday, just a week later than originally planned.
Mariah, Art and kids fly to Cancun, Mexico this coming Friday, March 20th--for a well
deserved vacation. They haven't been on vacation since visiting us in Australia, during
Thanksgiving time in Nov., 2007.
Hope this finds you all well.
Even though we sound like a broken record--we appreciate your prayers on behalf of
Dad and his surgery.
Miss and love you all.
Mom/grandma/ pat

HI family & friends: Pat is doing great as far as the PT's (Physical therapists are concerned)
but I do struggle sleeping well many nights. But Dad has been thru this before and says,
this to will pass. I feel strongly that because of the many prayers of our grandchildren on
behalf of my errant knee---the therapy is going exceptionally well. THANK YOU BELOVED
GRANDCHILDREN.  I wish I could say, I feel terrific--but I can't--but have hope it will
    finish/pass sooner than later.
Last weekend while up in Michigan--we were blessed to attend the baptisms of Jacob &
Makayla (Zach and Lori's twins) and the baby blessing of Spencer (Mariah and Art's now
5 month of baby boy). It was an exceptional weekend--especially Saturday. THere was
a special sweet spirit there. We were blessed to have 4 of our sons, one daughter and
20 of our 33 grandchildren there. The weather was generally bitter, but the joy of so
much family warmed things up. Even Great-Grandma was able to travel up with us.
I had my appointment with the surgeon, last Tuesday, for a final check-up. I have PT
twice a week in their office. Dad was with me and talked with the doctor about his hip and
Dr. McCarty suggested he have x-rays since he was already there. Upon showing them
to us, the doc said Doug's hip was shot--kaput. So, Dad, is now set for hip surgery
on Monday, March 16th. He also will have surgery for cataracts at the end of this month.
Art had previously said it might be better to use this surgeon we both trust and admire
his work--especially the speed of his operations-- means less time under.
So, we're both a bigger mess than originally planned on.
Also, Art's Dad has a very serious health problem also; that still has to be checked out
more, etc. so Art certainly has a full-plate.
Will you all be so kind to pray for Doug/ Dad surgeries as well as for Art's Dad; it would be
    so appreciated.
A couple of days ago, it was so nice--I could walk outside with Mariah for a short while.
She walked her whole neighborhood and I walked just the easier/shorter part.
It felt great. The past several days have been wet, cold and bone chilling to us old timers.
We so appreciate the great, kind and loving family that you all are. We miss you. Some of
you we haven't been able to see yet and we miss you all the more. Bear with us and we
hope and look forward to seeing you as soon as possible.
    Love you all soooooo much.
Love, Mom/ grandma mac/ pat and Doug
